Vilkku Winter Timetables Effective from August 12, 2026 - Changes to Routes and Services

Announcement 02.07.2026

Vilkku public transport winter timetables will come into effect on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. The winter schedule period will continue until June 6, 2027. With the introduction of the winter timetables, the network reform launched in the summer will continue, and service levels on the busiest trunk routes will be improved in particular.

Improved service on trunk routes 4, 5, and 6

The frequency of services on trunk routes 4, 5, and 6 will be further increased for the winter season. Shorter headways will make everyday travel easier and reduce the need to closely monitor timetables, especially during peak hours.

As service levels improve, route 6X will be discontinued, as its additional capacity will be replaced by more frequent services on trunk route 6. Other changes introduced during the summer to simplify the network will continue on their updated routes.

Route 29 to be redesigned

Route 29 will undergo significant changes:

  • The route will run via Kaivannonlahti
  • Travel directions will be modified, with the route operating against peak traffic flow along the motorway, reducing travel time and improving timetable reliability

Morning services:

  • Operate via Savolanniemi, Keilantori, and Kaivannonlahti to Savilahti and Kuopio University Hospital (KYS)
  • Return journeys to Petonen will run via Savilahdentie along the motorway

Afternoon services:

  • Departures from KYS will run via Savilahti to Saaristokatu, then through Kaivannonlahti, Keilantori, and Savolanniemi to Petosentie
  • From Petosentie, continuing services will return via the motorway to Savilahti and KYS

This means that in the afternoon, passengers can board in the Saaristokaupunki area and travel to Savilahti via the motorway. These changes aim to better meet travel demand at different times of the day.

Changes to Nilsiä local services

Changes will be made to local services in Nilsiä on routes 66, 67, and 68, particularly in the Palonurmi area. The changes are linked to adjustments in the local school network and aim to ensure smooth school transport connections while also serving other travel needs as effectively as possible.

In addition, route 63 will gain a new morning connection from Nilsiä to Tahko and an afternoon connection from Tahko to Nilsiä.
