The summer schedules and the trunk line reform will take effect on June 1, 2026
Summer schedules will take effect on Monday, June 1, 2026. At the same time, a trunk line overhaul will begin, improving the level of public transportation service, particularly on the busiest routes. Trunk lines 4, 5, and 6 are designed to meet the highest passenger demand and provide an easy-to-use foundation for the entire Vilkku network. These trunk lines are characterized by frequent service, smooth routes, and better connections to other lines.
Listed below are the changes to the route network effective from the start of the summer season on June 1, 2026. All summer schedules, routes, and changes can be viewed in the route guide and on timetable site.
- The routes for lines 4 and 8 will change in Neulamäki
-
- Routes 4 and 8 will no longer run the Neulamäki loop; instead, a turnaround will be built at the intersection of Jaamantie and Mottitie. This change will improve the reliability of schedules and reduce delays, as there will be a break at the end of the route.
- The route of Line 8 will change between Kelloniemi and the city center
- The route of Line 5 will change in Puijonlaakso
-
- Line 5 no longer runs a loop in Puijonlaakso; instead, the route ends at the shopping center. Service will operate in both directions on Sammakkolammentie and Taivaanpankontie. This change will improve schedule reliability and reduce delays, as there will be a break at the end of the route.
- Changes to Routes 6 and 23 at Pyörönkaari
-
- Connections between lines 6 and 23 will require a transfer at Pyörönkaari, as the improved service frequency on line 6 means the two lines’ schedules no longer align. As an exception, there will be a few morning services where a Line 6 bus departing from Keilantori will continue directly from Pyörönkaari as Line 23. These services are mentioned in the Line 23 timetable.
- The final stop for Line 6 at Pyörönkaari will change to the Pyörönkaari L stop.
- The new departure stop for Line 23 at Pyörönkaari is Kypäräkatu L. In the new schedule, the line will continue to the Blominkatu stop when arriving at Pyörönkaari.
- Change at the departure stop for Line 25 in the city center
-
- The departure stop for Route 25 in the city center is changing. The route will now depart from the Keskusta 1 stop. This change is being made to avoid congestion at the Keskusta 2 stop.
- Route 3 will be rerouted due to construction on Maaherrankatu
-
- Due to bridge construction on Maaherrankatu, Line 3 will operate on a detour route during the summer schedule period. This detour will affect the route’s service in the downtown area. Up-to-date stop and route information can be found in the Vilkku route guide.
New Buses and a Change in Operator
Vilkku’s bus service will become even more environmentally friendly with the introduction of new electric buses on routes 4, 8, 25 and 31–35. The new buses are also larger than the current ones, which will enhance passenger comfort.
Starting in the beginning of June, Pohjolan Liikenne will begin operating routes 4 and 8.
