On this page you'll find all the basic information on getting the right bus ticket and finding the right busses.
Quick quide for getting your student discounted bus ticket:
- Head to our customer service point with an ID and a certificate of studies (not older than 2 months) or a student card.
- Purchase Waltti bus card (5€) from customer service point and show student certification or student card to prove that you're student.
- Now you have bus card with student status and you can buy student discounted season tickets or load value on it to travel cheaper.
- Student discount is granted for a maximum of one year at a time and remains valid until end of August the following year.
Note! Some students are eligible to purchase 30 day student season tickets from the Waltti mobile app. However you'll need finnish social security number for identification.

- How do I pay in Vilkku buses?

Paying on the Vilkku buses is simple. You can pay your trips with contactless payment, mobile tickets, cash or with Waltti card. Note! prices vary on payment method with cash being the most expensive option.
Waltti travel card can be used in two ways: you can purchase value or season on your Waltti card. Value ticket is used for occasional trips and season ticket allows you to travel as often as you wish within the selected zone for 30 days. You can, of course, load both on the same card and use either the value ticket or the season ticket according to your needs.
Fares are determined by zones you travel. For example, if you travel from Kuopio to Nilsiä, you'll need ABCD ticket. Zones AB use single fare. Lines 1-40 operate within zones AB.

Example of ticket prices in AB zone:
- Cash: 3,80
- Contactless or mobile ticket: 2,70€
- Waltti card value ticket for student: 1,88€
- Waltti card 30 day season ticket for student: 40,50€
Tickets have 60min exchange time on zones AB. For other zones exchange time is 90min (contactless payment has always 60min exchange). An extra night fare is charged between 11PM and 4AM when paying with cash, contactless, mobile or value ticket.
Student discount
Full-time students and foreign exhange and degree students are entitled to a personal season or value ticket at a reduced rate. A student ticket can be loaded on personal Waltti travel cards. Some students are eligible to purchase 30 day student season tickets from the Waltti mobile app. However you'll need finnish social security number for identification.

When purchasing a Waltti card, you'll need a certificate of studies not older than two months or a student card with a valid academic year sticker on it. After that you can purchase student discounted tickets for your Waltti card online at Waltti shop or at our sales points. There are no service fees in Waltti shop.
